Notes Poetry: Call Me Crazy

January 1, 2017 at 1:13 AM

"El es raro, ma!"

"He's a creep"

That's just his nature

How he is

"He whispered in my ear the other day, 'Te quiero'"

He's just very loving

You know he only has himself and his wife

He has one son

Do you really think he'd like YOU

In the romantic sense?

You're CRAZY

Crazy

A word I've gotten used to hearing

That label

That has been repeated to me so many times,

It has become a part of my identity

A part of my self

Crazy

Every time I try to defend myself

Defend my name

Express a concern

They call me

Crazy

"You're just like your grandma:

Crazy"

If only they knew

If only they knew that a few years ago,

This lonely,

"Loving"

Man,

That "just wants to show he cares"

Sexually assaulted me

He kissed my lips

When no one was watching

Stole my innocence

Sucked my childhood out of me

The small amount of childhood

I had left

Caused me to age

Ten years

So am I really crazy?

For thinking that

This "man"

May be

Sexually attracted to me?

Crazy

This term

Used to put down

Shut the mouths of

Those brave enough to

Speak out

To admit

What the man has done

What he has stolen from

"His woman"

All women

So call me crazy

Crazy for speaking out

When the world wants me to

Shut up

Keep quiet

Man is always right

Man can do no wrong

Man can take whatever he pleases

Because society has told him that

He could

And he should

He can take the innocence of a young girl

A girl

More than half his age

With no consequences

The world is blind

It can't see

It won't see

It didn't see

So it never happened

It's my word,

One crazy girl's

Word,

Against millions

I've already lost

So no

I will not

Shut up

Shut out

My feelings

My anger

I will speak

I will write

I will fight

This crazy girl

Will battle

The patriarchy

Rape culture

His highness

Man

Till death do her part
