Self-Love (#SoulFoodSunday)

6/15/17

Gorda (Fat)

Flaca (Skinny)

These derogatory terms

Labels

We put each other in

Our women in

You're either one

or the other

2 labels

2 boxes

2 paths

2 bodies

Which one will you choose?

You decide

Growing up I was always

La Gordita

Not worthy of love

Because no man wants to marry

A fat woman

Now that I'm older

"thinner"

They say

Estoy en la linea

I'm on line

I have been admitted to the club of those eligible for marriage

Only those thin enough

Those light enough

Are admitted

Not too dark

Not too fat

Just right

I should be grateful

I should be flattered

"Please wait patiently on line for your turn!"

I am now beautiful

I am no longer gordita

I must now come to terms with this fact

I must now accept that I am worthy of love

I am

Right?
